On 29th January 2021, it marks an important milestone when SP-SSA International Terminal (SSIT) welcomes new service “PETRA” before the Lunar New Year 2021, Year of the Ox. The PETRA service is operated by MSC shipping line (Mediterranean Shipping Company), one of top three international container shipping companies over the world in order to connect cargoes of Viet Nam with other countries in Asia and East Africa.
The first PETRA vessel is M/V NAVIOS UTMOST belonging to MSC shipping line having capacity of more than 8,200 teu’s (1 teu = twenty-foot equivalent unit), 101,597 DWT (deadweight tons), and a vessel length of 336 meters. M/V NAVIOS UTMOST is planned to berth SSIT in order to load and discharge around 1,800 containers or almost 3,200 TEU exports and imports. Currently SSIT welcomes 5 weekly intra-Asia calls from MSC, connecting Vietnam with other Asian countries and 2 services to the United States from shipping lines such as CMA and THE Alliance.

SSIT will continuously strive to further improve its service quality, being one of the largest deep-sea terminals in the country, making an important contribution to the development of the Cai Mep and Vietnam seaport system”, said Mr. Nguyen Le Chon Tam, General Director of SSIT.
SP-SSA International Terminal (SSIT) is a deep-sea terminal located in Cai Mep Thi Vai, Ba Ria Vung Tau province. SSIT is a joint venture established in 2006 between SSA Marine, Seattle, Washington USA and the two Vietnamese companies, Vinalines and Saigon Port. Located in the downstream area of Cai Mep, SSIT was built to operate large container vessels and is equipped with modern container handling equipment, including the largest STS cranes in Vietnam, a land area of 60 hectares and 600 meters of berth length. In addition, SSIT also has 445 meters of specialized berth for handling barges connecting export and import goods from ICDs (Inland Container Depots), ports in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Binh Duong areas with Cai Mep area.
Welcoming new service when the Lunar new year (Year of the Ox) is coming soon, SSIT highly appreciates the great support of the Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Maritime Administration and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province as well as government agencies, SSIT’s Members' Council and departments bringing suitable conditions for shipping lines to allocate new container services into Cai Mep ports in particular and Viet Nam in general.
