SSIT WELCOMES THE MAIDEN CALL OF THE “CHINOOK” SERVICE OF MSC

On 9th February 2025, SSIT (SP-SSA International Terminal) proudly welcomed the MSC AURORA, voyage UK507A of the CHINOOK service connecting Vietnam and the U.S. Pacific Northwest of MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company), berthing SSIT successfully. MSC AURORA is one of 10 vessels in the fleet deployed on this route. The new standalone service of MSC post 2M, named “Chinook”, connects cargo flow in Vietnam and China with the North America West Coast via key ports US Pacific Northwest, with rotation as follows: Vung Tau – Hai Phong - Yantian - Shanghai - Qingdao- Busan – Seattle - Vancouver - Prince Rupert - Vung Tau.

Shortening transit time, Chinook service will transport cargo from Vietnam and China to the U.S. sooner and enhance capacity to align with market demands and bring greater benefits for U.S. consumers and customers. MSC is the world’s largest shipping line and one of the leading global businesses engaged in the shipping and logistics sector, with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

SSIT is a deep-sea terminal located in Cai Mep - Thi Vai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. Established in 2006, SSIT is a joint venture between SSA Marine, Seattle, Washington, USA and two Vietnamese companies: Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC) and Saigon Port. Situated in the downstream area of Cai Mep, which was ranked among the Top 8 most efficient container ports globally by Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) in 2024, SSIT is designed to operate large container vessels of up to 200,000 DWT and is equipped with modern container handling equipment, including some of the largest STS cranes in Vietnam, a land area of 60 hectares and 655 meters of berth. In addition, SSIT has a 435-meter specialized berth for handling barges that connect goods from Cai Mep area with inland container depots and other ICDs in nearby regions, including Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Binh Duong Province. SSIT sincerely thanks the Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Maritime Administration, Vung Tau Port Authority, Ba Ria Vung Tau Province, and all other relevant government agencies and departments for their continued support.
