SP-SSA International Terminal (SSIT) has signed a contract with HD Hyundai Eco Vina for the design, fabrication, transportation, installation, commissioning, and technical handover of two state-of-the-art rail-mounted ship-to-shore (STS/RMQC) quay cranes. The agreement was finalized in June 2026, with delivery scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.
The new cranes will feature a 76-metre outreach, enabling SSIT to handle the latest generation of ultra-large container vessels of up to 26 rows across. They will also offer a lifting height of 53 metres, with provisions for a future increase to 58 metres. Equipped with advanced technology and designed to meet international operating standards, the new cranes will further enhance SSIT's capability to serve the evolving requirements of global shipping lines.
This investment forms part of SSIT's long-term strategy to continuously strengthen its infrastructure, equipment, and operational readiness. By expanding quayside handling capacity and increasing operational flexibility, SSIT is positioning itself to support future cargo growth, accommodate larger vessels, and deliver even greater service reliability to customers.
As one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic trade and manufacturing regions continues to experience sustained growth, demand for efficient, high-capacity logistics and port infrastructure is expected to increase significantly in the years ahead. The addition of these next-generation cranes demonstrates SSIT's proactive approach to ensuring sufficient capacity and maintaining world-class service standards to support the long-term growth ambitions of its customers and stakeholders.
The investment also reinforces the strategic role of the Cai Mep-Thi Vai gateway in global shipping networks and strengthens its ability to accommodate the next generation of maritime services connecting Vietnam with key international markets. While infrastructure development remains an essential foundation for growth, SSIT's long-term commitment extends beyond physical assets. Through operational excellence, service quality, and trusted partnerships built over many years, SSIT continues to create sustainable value for customers while supporting Vietnam's integration into global trade and supply chains.
